Our Client is seeking a Billing Clerk with experience handling legal billing for busy Insurance Defense Firms

This role is responsible for managing our clients billing operations, ensuring compliance with insurance billing guidelines, and handling electronic billing submissions (eBilling). The ideal candidate has law firm billing experience, proficiency in legal billing software, and a strong understanding of insurance defense billing, LEDES formatting, and third-party payers.
Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process invoices in compliance with insurance company billing guidelines.
  • Training Timekeepers
  • Ensure accurate time and expense entry, verifying compliance with insurance defense requirements.
  • Manage electronic billing (eBilling) submissions to insurance carriers and third-party administrators.
  • Handle billing disputes, audits, and appeals, working with attorneys and insurance adjusters to resolve discrepancies.
  • Reconcile client trust accounts and manage insurance retainer payments.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding invoices, and track collections.
  • Budgeting for different Matters
  • Generate and analyze billing reports, providing insights on revenue, collections, and compliance.
  • Stay up to date with legal billing best practices, insurance industry regulations, and eBilling system updates.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in law firm billing, preferably with insurance defense or litigation clients.
  • Proficiency in legal billing software (e.g., Clio, TimeSolv, Elite, Legal X, Acuity, Collaborati, LSS).
  • Experience with LEDES billing format and eBilling portals (e.g.,   Legal Tracker, Bottomline).
  • Strong knowledge of insurance billing compliance, trust accounting, and retainer management.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Using I-Manage
  • Experience with Coyote is a PLUS
  • Ability to collaborate with attorneys, insurance companies, and third-party administrators.
