Bankruptcy Legal Assistant needed for National Firm based in Downtown Houston
 

Legal Assistant needed to join our team specializing in Bankruptcy, Creditors' Rights, and Financial Restructuring. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is eager to work with experienced attorneys on a diverse range of complex legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys in the preparation and filing of bankruptcy petitions, motions, and other related court documents.

  • Draft, proofread, and edit legal correspondence, pleadings, and discovery responses.

  • Manage and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are organized and up to date.

  • Conduct legal research on various issues related to bankruptcy, creditors' rights, and financial restructuring.

  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and courts to schedule hearings, depositions, and meetings.

  • Assist in the preparation for hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings, including gathering evidence and exhibits.

  • Support attorneys in negotiating and drafting settlement agreements and restructuring plans.

  • Monitor court filings and deadlines to ensure compliance with local rules and procedures.

  • Perform other administrative and clerical tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, preferably in Bankruptcy, Creditors' Rights, or Financial Restructuring.

  • Strong understanding of bankruptcy law, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 processes.

  • Familiarity with federal and state court rules and procedures.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal management software.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.

  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with bankruptcy case management software such as BestCase, Pacer, or similar platforms.

  • Familiarity with restructuring and insolvency matters, including distressed business transactions.

  • Knowledge of creditors' rights and collection processes.
